Singer Ximena Sariñana ignites a red spark with “Rompe”

Singer Ximena Sariñana ignites a red spark with “Rompe”

Although she has become known for her pop side, Mexican musician and actress Ximena Sariñana never gave up on the dream of rock and has finally been able to approach that genre with her most recent EP " Rompe ", released on Thursday.

"It's perhaps the most guitar-driven album I've ever done, where I dared to dream of being in a rock band ," he said in a recent meeting with reporters at a punk -rock cafe and forum in Mexico City. "I like people to get to know that side of me."

The EP includes the songs "Nada," " Rompe ," "Chispa Roja," and "Fiesta en mi Habitación," which were recorded almost two years ago. It will be presented on the tour currently underway in the United States, with stops in Los Angeles, San Diego, Austin, Houston, Chicago, New York, and Miami, among other cities, as well as an upcoming performance in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

"Now that I'm singing them again, it's really cool to perform them live ," he noted. "They're songs that I feel really shine live ."

The EP 's title track features a line Sariñana loves: "Let everything be everything or nothing."

"Ultimately, it's my standard, my way of life. I want to give it my all, I want to feel it all: the good, the bad, the horrible, the weirdest," he said. "Sometimes I feel like with age, you tend to want to tone down the intensity, but you also tone down the feeling."

In fact, with that song and with "Chispa roja," he would like to convey that it's never too late to dream and pursue what makes you happy, even if that means experimenting with something different, like his more rock-oriented style.

"It's great as a woman to send that message , that it's never too late to pursue your dreams and you should never stop being yourself and embracing yourself and seeking to be the most faithful version of who you are," said Sariñana, who is 39 years old and the mother of two children with photographer Rodrigo Rodríguez.

  • Sariñana explained that the video for "Chispa Roja," in which she dances among mysterious blondes, represents "the chaos and destruction that comes with the explosion of emotions, of breaking away from who you were and abruptly stopping something."
Hera Festival

Last year, the singer was part of the production team for the first edition of Mexico City's Hera festival , whose lineup included female artists and female- led groups. She noted that they are in talks this year and could soon have news about a second edition.

Recently, Mexico's festival scene experienced a shocking and painful moment with the deaths of two photojournalists at the Ceremonia Festival due to a falling crane.

"What happened is a tragedy ; there was definitely negligence ," Sariñana said. "In the end, it's very sad and makes us reflect deeply on the state of the creative industries. That's obviously an issue that needs to be examined in depth, but above all, I think what's needed now is a lot of solidarity , especially with the families of those affected."
